 We have a range of standard mobile mounts and brackets to enable the installation of our Outbacker Antennas to vehicles plus adapt them for use in portable applications.

We are always looking at different solutions to fix aerials to vehicles - if you have any good ideas please let us know and we will see if they can be made into an actual product.

Mounting options for HF mobile antennas

We currently are working on a number of options for mounting HF mobile antennas to vehicles, there are a number of devices available that have been designed for the CB market but the problem is they are intended for use with lightweight antennas with minimal wind loading -  the large antennas in the  Outbacker range present a loading factor that will exceed the ratings of these devices.

With this in mind we have been taking ideas from our customers plus spending a lot of time trying various options.

First we have a heavy duty mount designed to be bolted to the tow ball.

Tow Ball mount

This has been drilled to either take a heavy duty ball mount or similar.

Next we have been working on a mount that can be easily fitted or removed from the tow bar plus have the ability to be hinged out with extension sections to provide a sensible separation between the antenna mast and the back of the vehicle, this is especially suitable for the larger 4 -wheel drive vehicles and motorhomes.

As you see, there is a mounting plate that fits between the tow ball and the tow bar - this then has the aerial mount either directly attached to it or via one of the spacing adaptors

In this picture there are 2 spacing units between the primary mounting and the antenna base.





Extenda mount


 Here you can see the individual sections that extend from the back plate, all of them have a hinge type fixing that allows any angle plus the addition of extra sections to get the required spacing from the back of the vehicle.  On the motorhome installation the close proximity to the rear of the vehicle causes the resonant frequency of the antenna to drop by 200kHz on 20m, when used with a 6 inch and a 12 inch extension normal operation is restored.
